Kinema – April Update : zero_six_alpha_0.0.9
April’s release has been all about testing, refining, and improving some of the less glamorous parts of Kinema.
We’ll be honest — this isn’t a feature-packed update full of shiny new tools. Instead, we’ve focused on cleaning up and upgrading a lot of the “boring” backend code. The result? The app runs faster, feels smoother, and crashes far less often… which is a pretty big win.
What’s NewOS Profile Photo (Big Update)
One of the biggest improvements this month is the progress on profile photos for iOS.
We’ve completely rewritten this feature from the ground up using native Swift integration for the first time. It’s a big step forward for performance and reliability. There’s still a little more work to do — specifically adding image preview before upload — which is planned for May’s update.
Poster Sharing (Temporarily Removed)
We’ve removed the poster sharing feature for now. This is so we can rebuild and improve it properly, ensuring it works reliably across all iPhone versions. It will return in a future update, better than before.
Improved Recommendations UI
We’ve updated the UI for the Recommend section, and it’s now much cleaner and more enjoyable to use. Small changes, but they make a big difference to the overall experience.
Backend & API Improvements
A lot of work has gone into backend updates and API improvements. These changes aren’t visible, but they help everything run more efficiently behind the scenes.
Where is the Android Version?
We’ve made the decision to not support Android in 2026.
Instead, we’re focusing all our efforts on getting the iOS version polished and fully released on the App Store first. We know this won’t be the answer everyone wants, but it allows us to move faster and deliver a better overall product.
That said — if you really want an Android version, let us know.
Email us at hello@kinema.app and we’ll keep track of demand.
Thanks for sticking with us. Bigger, more visible features are coming soon — but this month was about making sure Kinema is solid at its core.
